Book Clubs

 

The Bethel Park Public Library offers a variety of book clubs. Please visit our book club blog bethelparklibrarybookclubs.blogspot.com/ for dates, times and selections.

 

 

Computer Classes

 

Computer Classes are Free.

You must register for each class.

Classes are approximately 1 hour long.

Classes are a "one time" session, but can be taken as many times as you like.

Sign up at the Reference desk or by calling 412-835-2207 ext. 246.

You do not have to be a Bethel Park resident.

We do not have classes for individuals, classes are kept to a maximum of 4 -5 people.

New classes are scheduled each month.

 

Intro. to Computers - Very Basic.  Covers what a computer, hardware, software are, how to use a mouse, what Windows is, what the different drives are on a computer, and introduces the internet. (best to take before the others if you have never used a mouse before)

 

Basic Internet - Covers how to use a mouse, what the internet is, how to get to a website when you know the web address, how to search the internet using search engines (how to use Yahoo / Google).  (best to take before the others if you have never used a mouse before)

 

Advanced Internet - Covers how to use the Library’s databases, introduces other search tools, and a few tips and hints when searching.

 

Basic Email - Covers how to set up a FREE Yahoo email account (accessible on ANY internet computer)  If you already have an email account, you can bring your email address and password, we can log into your email account, and you can ask questions.

 

Microsoft Word - Basic.  How to use the Microsoft word processing program.  Covers how to manipulate text (change font size/style, how to center, how to cut/copy and paste, how to save a file, how to change margins, how to print.

 

 

Reference

 

The Reference Department will provide readily available, accessible, and approachable service. Staff will strive to meet every patron's informational and reading guidance needs, regardless of the patron's age, economic status, or race.

Information and assistance is provided at the library by qualified reference librarians. The reference department provides quick and accurate answers over the telephone to many commonly asked questions.

Outreach

 

The Outreach Department seeks to serve the special needs of older adults, public, and those adults who either work with or care for these groups. Services to these groups are provided through in-house and outreach programs and materials.

 

Homebound Delivery Service

 

Library materials are available to Bethel Park residents who are unable to come to the library either temporarily or permanently. Every two weeks library staff will select and deliver materials directly to your home and pick up returns. This service is provided to both individuals in their homes and residents of senior care facilities. To sign up for homebound services, please call the library at 412-835-2207 ext. 264.

 

Read Aloud Program

 

Volunteers present monthly reading and discussion programs in local nursing homes, personal care homes, and other senior centers. The format of the program encourages participants to listen to readings and participate in discussion. Volunteers are always needed for this rewarding program. Please contact Mary Mullen, Outreach Librarian for more information.

 

Aging Center

 

The Aging Center is an on-site resource center that provides materials for activity professionals, caregivers, and volunteers working with seniors. The center houses books, multi-media kits, games, videos, and cassettes. These materials assist patrons with program planning, recreational and educational activities, and caregiving.
